If you are in USA and want to text back to Canada you will get roaming charges.

You can purchase a travel pack if needed you can get the info here.

Without a travel pack its $0.75/sent text.

If you have a wifi connection where you will be in the USA, you will still be able to text over Skype (or other free web based texting services) back to Canada for free.  Just make sure to go into your cell phone's settings and turn your data off, because if your wifi connection gets interrupted you will start using data minutes.
