I'm a Participant Level 2

International MMS problem

I have a HTC Desire 601 with Fido on the $39.75 Unlimited text & picture messaging plan.

 

While I am able to send/receive SMS and MMS Canada wide, internationally (UK) I am only able to send/receive SMS, unable to send or receive MMS.

 

I have taken my phone back to Fido, they checked the settings and everything was ok.


I contacted the Fido support number and they refreshed my picture messaging package (or something) and suggested I ask the recipients of the MMS messages in the UK to contact their providers (O2, Vodafone and Orange) to make sure everything is ok their end.............IT SHOULDN'T BE THIS DIFFICULT!!!

Some things to consider for MMS:

 

Is the problem happening in both directions?  (ex. Is the user in foreign country able to send MMS to you in Canada?)

 

Do you have a maximum message size defined in settings? (ex. this can be different between networks, and could be a reason the message is not delivered - for example if you're sending a 300KB photo to a network that only allows 100KB via MMS). 

 

Unfortunately if your MMS service is working properly in Canada, there isn't much Fido can do to troubleshoot the issue since we have no visibility nor control on the foreign network.

I also am having a problem with international MMS.

 

When I send a SMS internationally it recieved no problem, however MMS do not get recieved.

 

I am sending photos from a samsung galaxy to a samsung phone in NZ. I can send and recieve MMS within Canada no problem and the reciever can send and recieve MMS within NZ no problem.

 

Are there some settings that I need to be aware of to properly send MMS internationally?

I have the same issue. international MMS not working, SMS is fine.

Maybe fido is the one that needs to look into this.

Do you have a data plan on your account?


If not, I was told that android requires a data connection for the MMS to go through, it won`t go through even if you use wifi.


I know it defeats the purpose of having unlimited MMS but that`s how androids operate apparently.
