Help! Enable LTE on Xperia Z3 Compact

I got the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact (D5803) shipped from the UK and can't connect to LTE. I'm pretty sure the phone supports the 2100 and 2600 MHz frequencies used by Fido but I'm only getting the 4G/H+/3G. I don't know if it's because Fido LTE network doesn't support the phone (yet?) or I missed something in the APN Settings.

Just curious if you were able to resolve this issue with your z3 compact? I was looking at buying a z3 compact from the US and have seen both the D5833 and D5803 versions of the phone and not sure which is best. I'm on fido in ontario.

Hello Mbc,

Welcome to the community!

Judging by the specifications posted previously,

the D5803 would be the better option for Fido/Rogers. It has all of the compatible bands/frequencies for 2G and '3G'. In addition, it also has *all of the compatible bands/frequencies for LTE (*except the most recently added band 12). You can verify the compatible bands/frequencies here

While the D5833 also has all of the compatible bands/frequencies for 2G and '3G', it would only have one compatible band for LTE, band 7 (2600 MHz).

  Hope this helps Smiley

Cheers

Hi. Thanks for the replies. I really appreciate them.

The phone is compatible with LTE 700/800/850/900/1700/1800/1900/2100/2600 - D5803 (Model). I've also got the Fido LTE sim card and set up the settings posted but to no such luck. I live in Vancouver, BC so LTE coverage is not the problem I guess.

Are you sure Z3 supports LTE 2100 and 2600?

According to their spec sheet they only support the following:

D5803 UMTS HSPA+ 850 (Band V), 900 (Band VIII), 1700 (Band IV),
              1900 (Band II), 2100 (Band I) MHz
               GSM GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
               LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 13, 17, 20)
D5833 UMTS HSPA+ 850 (Band V), 900 (Band VIII), 1900 (Band II), 2100 (Band I) MHz
               GSM GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
               LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 28)
               TD LTE Band 40

Hello OrangeZvs,

I think what is confusing you is that they only list the LTE bands and not the associated frequencies like they did for 3G. Both phones support band 7 which corresponds to 2600 MHz. Even more confusing is that while both phones support band 1 (2100 MHz), only the first phone (D5803) has band 4 (AWS or 1700/2100 MHz) which is actually the correct band for Fido/Rogers.

Cheers

I don't have this phone, but I Googled and found this link that posted some APN settings:

More precisely, for the APN, make sure you use ltemobile.apn and not fido-core-appl1.apn

Do you have a Fido LTE SIM card?

Did you setup the correct APN in the phone's settings?  (you can find the info here by searching the forums)

Did you confirm the compatibility of the LTE bands/frequencies with the phone & Fido's network?

Did you check a coverage map to ensure you have LTE coverage in your neighbourhood?
