Galaxy S6 Marshmallow update

I've read at numerous online points today that officially Marshmallow is rolling out globally for Galaxy S6 devices starting today, Feb 15th. I've checked the Schedule for Fido, but still no change/update. Hi Everyone. I updated my Samsung S6 today to 6.01 Marshmellow

Check your phone. I had to prompt the phone to search for updates even though it was set to auto but it was there, upgrading now

So just came accross about Android 7.0 Nougat... http://www.androidcentral.com/android-70-nougat-likely-releasing-august-22

 

While Nexus devices will be upgrading to Android Nougat August 22, us S6/S6 Edge owners will still be waiting for Android 6.0/6.0.1 Marshmallow for a long while it seems. Thanks so much Fido will definitely be switching to another when my 2 year contract is up, love my current service but hate how long it takes you guys to update your Android phones...

*sigh* I keep promising not to comment anymore on this cluster of a situation and keep getting drawn back.

To think about nougat when they still can't get 6 out? expect fall 2017 for that.

My bill is due in a few days each time I pay it now I wince, because feel I am not getting my money's worth.

For the naysayers yes I can make calls but keeping the phone updated properly is part of the service.

I just can't see how I can renew, just coming up on a year with this contract but I can't see me staying the full two.

Now taht I got the update my phone runs so slow takes forever to get a text it will beep and then only show up 10 20 seconds later if I'm texting someone and receive a text it freezes my phone and have to wait. For them to take so long for it to come out and now make my phone run like **bleep** I'm not pleased at all as soon as my contract is up I'm gone!

@Phat24 Try clearing the cache partition and see if that helps.

This stupid company will never listen to us or care about its customer. Every other carrier in canada has the update since around April.

However, I have my own trick that I use since last year and get the update when anyother carrier release it since all S6 and S6 edge in canada are the same exact model. You only trick smart switch momentarly that your phone is for different carrier and you will get the update from smart switch no root or xnox triger or anything and you will still get the update over the air when Fido ever release it (if that would ever happen lol)

 

I cant put the links (don't want my post unfairly deleted) so just google  "Get Update from different carrier using SmartSwitch [Canadian]" my thread is on XDA.

 

Now i'm using Kodoo latest software and i'm loving it loving the wifi calling and awsome battery improvment

I thought switching from Bell to Fido just over a year ago was a good move. Wow was I wrong. Spending a lot of money on a good phone that is now outdated has left me very unimpressed with Fido and Rogers. I will not be renewing my contract with Fido and am praying my phone hasn't already been compromised with the lack of security updates that I was promised. Sad state of affairs if you ask me. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND FIDO TO ANYONE!

Yes, this is massively disappointing. I pre ordered the GS6 on Fido to have the latest and greatest phone, and here I am in August 2016 while my phone has not had a security update since November 2015, nevermind the OS update.

 

I could not reccommend Fido or a Samsung smartphone on Fido to anyone in good conscience.

I enjoy Fido and their service but when it comes to updating their Android phones they suck, but not to mention you could have Spotify for 2 years just last month they changed it to 6 months. I'm only staying with Fido because of my 2 year Spotify subscription. Once that's done switching to another carrier, really also want the Galaxy Note 7

In August patch there was critical security vulnerability so imagine how many vulnerabilities we have since we didn't receive any patches since last year. I highly recomend not using things like banking apps while fido has not provide us with update (if the will ever will, lets keep dreaming)

It is interesting that in the Android Upgrade OS schedule for the S6 it stated at one time that it was to be upgraded to Marshmallow in June and now we are in August with no upgrades and now it states coming soon.  I recall when the upgrades for marshmallow first came out in the city and that Telus a couple of weeks into the release of the OS upgrade upgraded their phones.  Why is it taking so long for a major provider such as Rogers/Fido to upgrade their phones.  If Telus did it within weeks of the original release date of the upgrade with no issues on their end why can't our service provider.  According to Samsung they are also preparing to release another OS update in the future hopefully S6 users will get the Marshmallow update before the new one is released.

Sooo Fido. It's pretty much the middle of August now and we still don't have an update for the S6. I would check the update schedule as suggested ad infinitum by the moderators, but seeing as how it states 'Coming Soon' for months on end, I wouldn't hold my breath. I wonder if there's any way I can contact Samsung to let them know how bad you are at selling/managing their products.

Quick update, Everything works well, the network was on edge so i had to go in the network setting and choose fido again. LTE is back. Sooo Volte doesn't work ill have to figure out why and how to reconfigure it. Fido if you read this make your magic happen, don't tell us its the update issue bla bla cause it's not true. Guys not talking about Fido IT's btw, if you know the answer let me know.

Honestly Fido, it's getting a bit ridiculous how long it's taking to get Marshmallow on my S6. Even the S5 has it now, according to your OS Update schedule. Can I even expect to get it before 2017?

I posted easy instructions to work around Fido refusing to release the update but since they found it necessary to delete my post I'll simply say Google How to change CSC for Samsung Galaxy devices and follow the instructions. This requires no rooting or hacking of any kind. You end up with the exact same KNOX enabled device running Android 6.0.1
