FidoDollars are useless.

The only things you can buy with FidoDollars are old ugly phones and options like call forwarding and evening start at 5.. I have an unlimited plan and a iPhone 4.. what can I do with those FidoDollars?

The only thing I would want to buy is a iPHONE CHARGER FOR CAR and there is no way to buy accessory like we use to be able to. This is complete . FIDO DOLLARS ARE USELESS

The problem is the way represent it. They make it sound like they are giving you something sooooo cool but in reality it is very useless. And if something is worth complaining sorry but people will complain.

Re: FidoDollars are useless.

I am running into the same issue as I look to use my $750 FD on a new phone.  I already have a contract and have not interest in extending it.  I do feel that they are useless to me and do little to honor the $12,000 I spent on phone bills last year.  If I am spending that much on their service, let me use the damm %4 return on what I want, a new phone??!!

When was the last time you inquired about using them? Apparently they no longer require you to have a contract to use them to buy a phone.

Re: FidoDollars are useless.

I was told this when I was inquiring about some other account details.  That was the first I had heard of this.  I guess I will find out tomorrow!

Maybe. We'll have to see whether it holds. I am a little confused to be honest. FidoStephen's actual comment was

Hey guys,

Slight correction in 10yearfido's post (good news); since we no longer offer 2 or 3 year data add-ons, they are no longer required when purchasing a smartphone at full cost.

But when I look up the T&C for Fido Dollars on their website it still says:

8. Redemption of available FidoDollars. FidoREWARDS participants can redeem their available FidoDOLLARS on fido.ca/rewards, in certain Fido stores or by calling 1 888 481-FIDO (3436). The FidoDOLLARS available can only be used toward the purchase of Fido phones (other than smartphones, unless a participant subscribes to a data add-on with a commitment period or to prepaid service) mobile internet devices (with a subscription to a data add-on with a commitment period) or the following add-on services: Name Display, Call Display, Call Forwarding, WhoCalledTM, #AUTO, Expanded Network, Suburban zone, text messaging, international text messaging, picture and video messaging, Additional Minutes (anytime local calls), Fido to Fido Anywhere in Canada, Canada/U.S. Long-Distance, International Long-Distance, U.S. roaming and Happy Hour, in each case, from among those available at the time of FidoDOLLARS redemption, or toward $20 increments of prepaid airtime. Each FidoDOLLARS point corresponds to one (1) dollar applicable to the regular price in effect at the time of FidoDOLLARS redemption, including applicable taxes, except for taxes applicable to add-on services which cannot be paid using FidoDOLLARS. FidoDOLLARS have no monetary value and cannot be exchanged for cash. FidoDOLLARS can only be used in accordance with these terms and conditions and participants cannot sell, buy, give, transfer or otherwise dispose of their FidoDOLLARS without Fido's prior written consent. Only the account holder or any authorized user designated by the account holder may redeem available FidoDOLLARS or otherwise manage the FidoDOLLARS associated with that account. Fido may validate the identity of any account holder or authorized user before allowing them to redeem any FidoDOLLARS.

So, while FidoStephen may be correct, we still have the old info to go by.

Rogers screwed up Fido nice. Before you were able to use your Fido dollars to pay your phone bill. You cant even buy accessories with them anymore...

Re: FidoDollars are useless.

How true! I had 60 Fido dollars that I had to use up before I cancel my fido plan. I couldn't use it towards any phone accessories which was how I wanted to spend my Fido dollars -  I need a new skin for my new smartphone. Too bad that you can use it towards "useful" purchases. I ended up spending the Fido dollars on a data and long distance plan.

Hi Vdumitre,

It usually takes between 2 - 5 business days for the delivery, maximum 2 weeks.

Re: FidoDollars are useless.

"other than smartphones, unless a participant subscribes to a Data option with a commitment period or to prepaid service"

Seems to me what it says here is that to buy a Smart Phone with Fido dollars you need to have or activate a data plan. You can go pre-payed, no contract.
If you already have a calling contract it doesn't say you need to renew it, just need to get a data addon to get a smart phone.

Nothing says you can't cancel the data addon the very next month and have a smartphone with calling service only.

Though seems to purchase the LTE hot spot (Or tablets if they carried them) you need an existing contract. (you wouldn't use fido dollars on a new contract since it's already free for new contracts)

The problem with that suggestion, is that if you buy a smartphone with a required data plan and then cancel that data plan, you will be charged the termination fee for the data plan which is by far the largest portion of your tab. So, if your subsidy was $500 and you cancel the data portion the next day, then your termination fee would be approx $450.

Moot point anyway. You are now allowed to use your Fido Dollars to buy smart phones without taking a data plan as long as you pay full price for the phone, so no other discount/subsidy. This is not yet reflected in the terms and conditions for Fido Dollars, though it has been policy now for about a year.

Re: FidoDollars are useless.

Yup! Not impressed with that. I remember seeing that you could buy accessories in the past, but I didn't need anything at the time, so I saved them. Now I've saved $100 Fido dollars and was ready to buy a larger memory card, only to find out I can't use them anymore. Lame!
