Fido U.S. roaming charges ?!?

I've been with Fido for almost 20 years. Yesterday I relunctantly made the decision to leave! I travel to the U.S. every few months and can't stand being ripped off. All major carriers have come up with roaming plans that allow you for a few dollars a day to use your current package in the U.S. Even Rogers, fido's parent company has had roam like home since november 2014...! Enough is enough! I can already anticipate the replies to my post from Fido:


"We do not have any information on whether or not we will offer a similar service at this time but you can follow us on Facebook or Twitter for updates!"




we wouldn't want to see  you go. Unfortunately we can't comment or speculate on upcoming products before an official announcement is made. We will definitely keep you in the loop!


Well as of this Friday, I'M GONE!


Btw, please tell management at customer service to stop asking clients if they can call us by our first name when we call, it's really annoying!

I purchased a US package for a week in April. I am still being billed for another package for May. I explained to the service representative I would only be gone 7 days, he said that was fine it would expire in 30 days. No one is answering the phone when I dial 611, it keeps asking me to use the self serve option. What is going on? I've never had a screwed up bill from Fido before.

Travel packs are valid for 30 days, if you added the Travel Pack at the end of April, you may still be seeing the same travel pack on your account now Smiley

I'm in the exact same position. Been with Fido since they began. They've been a terrific company for such a long time but they've lost their edge. Rogers plans offer more flexibility and cost less. And now Roam Like Home is too irresistible to pass up as I travel quite frequently. I'm actually sad to have to leave Fido. They're customer service is way better than any other company and for years they've made my life easier with their unlimited use plans. I've called several times asking for any hint of a possibility that they will be getting a roam like home feature in the near future. Well, I can't wait any longer either. Next week I plan to leave.

The plans on fido have seem to have gotten more expensive. My second line has unlimited canada calling and 1gb of data for $60 a month on smart. Same plan same smart contract is now $75. Only if you bring you're phone over or buy your contract outright will you see the same plan as I have for my 2nd line. So I don't really thing fido will be getting the same roaming feature as the rest of Canadas wireless companies.

On our end, we can only offer you the available options we have. In this case, it would be travel packs and data passes.

This is all depending on the type of usage that you do when you go to the U.S.

I'm about to leave also because of the roaming and US calls, Wind has a pretty good plan for $39 that I will leave Fido for.

I would have to say that each provide has there own advantages.


At the same time, we certainly don't want to see you leave on our end.

I'm running into the same issue with Fido. I have been with them for many years now, and have multiple phone lines with them. Rogers and Bell are both offering me plans for less than what I currently pay, and I could take advantage of the Roam like home which I need for my business. Thankfully I'm not on a contract so can make the switch without penalty. It would be great if they could offer the same service their parent company offers because I would rather not go through the hassle of switching.
