I called my own number, and was greeted by a message "the cellular number you've called is not assigned." My phone cannot connect to the internet, text, nor receive/place any calls for the last 4+ hours. I want an explanation as to what is going on

How long has this issue been ongoing?
Have you tried to power-cycle your phone, to see if this helps?
(Turn the phone Off, remove the SIM card, put it back in, turn the phone back On)
From MyAccount, you should be able to see which SIM card is assigned. Are you also able to make sure that your SIM card is activated? If it isn't, this would explain the issues you've been having.

No ... it was Fido's network. I checked NetworkAid after my post, and other outage sites and it was clear Fido was the issue.
In any event, it was fixed this morning so no further investigation is needed.
