Device warranty - being given runaround

Very upset right now. I had signed up for the LG III tablet promotion in mid December last year. My device was fine until recently, it started experiencing some issues that requires attention (yes I have done factory resets, device never been dropped or damaged, etc).

I spoke with online chat and was told to bring the device in store to have it sent in for repair. Today, I went to my local Fido (Oakridge Mall, Nov.26, 2:15PM). Spoke with a very arrogant representative who stated that even though the device is under warranty, it's past 15 days so I have to contact LG Canada directly. As well, Fido only looks after phones and not tablets. I was pretty much given the runaround even though I had read Fido's website regarding warranty and had brought along my proof of warranty papers. Looking for some immediate help as I am extremely frustrated and my device is close to hitting the 1 year mark soon.

Hi @Icecool!

Welcome to the Community Smiley

Really sorry to learn you were given the runaround, that's definitely not the kind of experience we want you to have.

Repairs for tablets are indeed handled by LG outside of the 15 days satisfaction guarantee. Unlike with phones, we cannot act as intermediates for the repair.

You can reach LG at 1-888-542-2623 or use their online portal for repair right here

Let me know if you need help with that.

Just an update. I had submitted to FutureTel (as requeted by LG Canada). As mentioned, I had signed a 2-year agreement on Dec. 8th, 2016 (obviously, with the device taking a few business days to arrive shortly after). I received an email today from FutureTel claiming that the device is out of warranty (even though it is Dec. 6th today), not to mention they claimed that the device has been rooted but no modification was ever done to the unit. Very upset right now. Reached out to LG Canada and they offered me a flatrate repair job which I refused because this is not ethical when I did nothing to the device.

Firstly, upon reading comments regarding FutureTel, they have a history of making false claims to the device in order to bill manufacturers. Lots of customers stated that they have been asked to pay for repairs for issues/damages that never existed until after the devices have been handled by FutureTel.

Secondly, LG is also refusing to help as they have reached out to FutureTel and was told that the device was rooted.

I am not an IT specialist, and not familiar with programming. The purpose of the device was to surf the web, browse the news, etc. Also, if the device has a 1 year warranty, why would I go ahead and tamper with the device to risk losing the warranty? There is no benefit to do such a thing to a normal user. Right now, I am very upset and frustrated beyond relief.

To pursue this even further, keep in mind that the LG tablet model sold by Fido is V522. Upon further research, this version is not rootable at all!

How can a repair center claim that a regular joe has rooted the device when the IT experts claim that rooting is not yet available?
