Calling a US number while roaming in the same city

A friend of mine visiting Canada from the united states and he is planning to use his phone, as he got unlimited  Canada & USA with his carrier inthe states.

Now, how can I call him from my Canadian number without being charged for long distance? I know I can call him using facetime and other apps avaiable, but if I want to make a direct call?

If you call him direct from your cell you will be charged US long distance rates.

You can add a long distance addon to you line and you can call him for $15 a month you get unlimited minutes to the US see here.

You can add a $5 US long distance addon and it will give you a rate of 10cents a minute see here.
