Bring back per-second billing!

i've started a thread on Koodo Mobile's forum in February 2012. In it, it explained how it was a shame that Koodo removed per-second billing, and how Fido was like a loyal dog as the first carrier in Canada to introduce us to per-second billing. i recalled a commercial where a woman was in a taxi with her dog, and commented about her taxi ride lasting twenty seconds and how she shouldn't pay for a minute. The commercial was nice, to the point and it was lovely to see Fido doing this.  But is this all passé now?

Koodo's move was actually precedented by Bell Mobility. When Bell purchased the entirity of Virgin Mobile Canada, which only charged per minute, Bell started neglecting its own Solo Mobile brand by eliminating advertising and retail presence for it.  Bell not only bought Virgin outright in an greater effort to market towards youth, it also bought Virgin to discourage Solo customers from keeping their per-second monthly plans.

When Fido decided to put the heartwarming per-second dog on a leach after nearly 15 years of servicing the public, nothing nice nor positive was done to counter-balance this loss.  Nothing at all.  Plans are still only good for local calls, the amount of minutes is rock bottom low, and we still have to pay for calling Fido customers on a different account!  Besides access to its own GSM network and Rogers', does Fido have any tricks left to amaze the public, or are they just a bad wallet-biting pet?

This is a call for Fido to continue providing exceptional value with per-second billing.  Contrary to what it claims, it actually makes a difference, especially on the severely minute-limited plans currently in Fido's lineup.  Marketing is pointless if a company doesn't live up to it, if it lies or greatly exaggerates about its benefits as an attempt to camouflage its flaws.  Only Fido customers are allowed on this forum, which will make for an interesting discussion to see if Fido will…

Re: Bring back per-second billing!

Absolutely furious about this! It would also be nice if I got an email from Fido regarding the discontinuation of per-second billing. Only applies to those signing new agreements. One of Fido's biggest marketing strengths down the tube.

Re: Bring back per-second billing!

i still have per second billing ,but what I understand is  once i make any changes to my plan, or options, i will have per minute billing? it seems thats a very sneaky way of getting people off per second billing, and trying to squeeze more $ out of every customer plus i will get charged $2 paper invoice fee too,  and my cancelltion fee will change from $200 to $400.  wow, lots of sneaky changes for just changing my plan or options

Re: Bring back per-second billing!

Very sneaky indeed.  As an existing customer with a per-second plan I would've expected them to alert me of such a major change to their service, but I have yet to receive a single text or email.

Re: Bring back per-second billing!

Hello everyone,

Please note that if you currently have a plan with per second billing, it will remain grandfathered. You would only be migrated to per minute billing should you choose to change your plan. This change affects new customers only. If you do change your plan, you will definitely be informed of the change.

Hopefully this helps.

Re: Bring back per-second billing!

I am really really annoyed now. I called to sign up for a contract before this change but my order wasn't processed and was cancelled without notifying me. Not much of a reason to stick with Fido anymore....

Re: Bring back per-second billing!

Yes this is actually really frustrating. I work at Apple Retail and whenever someone comes in to ask about the different carriers and its advantages, I always refer them to Fido for their per-second billing that really distinguishes them from the other 4 compagnies (Rogers, Telus, Bell, Virgin). Now the five companies that we sign customers to are pretty much all the same...

Re: Bring back per-second billing!

Fido has been Rogered. I left Rogers because of their horrible business practices and their seemingly sociopathic treatment of their customers. I went to Fido and was extremely happy. But after about 1 year, Rogers bought out Fido. The quality of service and ethical standards seem to have declined steadily since then. They eliminated their human phone support and only restored it after complaints started to reached their head office. Generally the executive tries to create as many barriers between themselves and the malcontent customers as possible. We are like food to them, and they want us to be dead before we get to their dinner table. The deterioration of services like per second billing means they have no advantage over koodo.

Even though the change doesn't apply to me yet, as I am "grandfathered in", I am planning to change my contract and will almost certainly go to Koodo next. I hate to switch from a service I have used for 10 years. But fido seems to be going senile, and a decade is a long time in dog years.
