iMessage problems with Fido

I have an xperia x10 android phone. Now my problem is that my friend uses imessage to text, but my messages aren't going through to him. Everything was working fine for the last 2 weeks, but last night it's like something happened because now he isn't getting any of what I'm sending. I get a time stamp when I send a text message indicating that it has been sent, but he's just not receiving them.

Is there a solution to this?

Re: iMessage problems with Fido

Hey everyone!

Although this thread is quite old, I'd like to add a small update since I came upon it. I know that a lot of peoples are having issue with iMessage after changing their device. First a quick explanation on how iMessage works. Basically it is a service that allows Apple users to communicate between them. So, when you activate iMessage on your device, when another iMessage user sends you a message, it WON'T be sent to your cellphone number; it will be sent to your Apple ID. If you change phone for a different brand and forget to disable iMessage before doing so, you won't be receiving messages from Apple users since they will still be sent to your Apple ID. If you want to have further details about this issue or have a quick way to fix it, please click here, it will bring you to the support page from Apple about iMessage. For those of you who switched from iPhone to a different brand please look at the "get more help" part on the page I linked to have further support.

Hope it helps

Re: iMessage problems with Fido

I sort of understand what the OP is saying...

I am having a somewhat similar issue..

I used to have an iPhone but upgraded to a Nexus 4 and I am using the same sim card I used to have in the iPhone.

Problem for me is that I do not receive mms messages from anyone with an iPhone, nor can I send them.

Regular texts also seem to take up to 30 minutes to deliver both to and from my contacts who use an iPhone (They are on both Bell and Rogers networks).

I have reset the phone 3 times, and had Fido push the wireless settings to my phone twice now.

I've been reading online that the iPhones may recognize my number as an iPhone/iMessage number and may be trying to send/receive messasge through their system which is what is causing the problems. Seems possible but sounds ridiculous.

I am going to try and get a new sim card later today. if that doesn't work I guess I will have to try a new phone number which will suck.

And if that doesn't work I guess I'm stuck switching back to an iPhone whenever the new one comes out because this Android phone has NEVER worked properly regarding SMS/MMS to and from iPhone users.

Re: iMessage problems with Fido

@PDW - I have seen this before as well. I wasn't able to find a resolution, but my suggestion would be to insert your SIM in an iPhone and disable iMessages. You could also ask the person with an iPhone trying to send / receive MMS from you to disable iMessage.

Have you conatcted Apple to see if they have any way of clearing this up?

Re: iMessage problems with Fido

No I have not contacted apple support, I don't have a Fido iPhone to be able to pop my sim card in either.

And getting people to switch off iMessage everytime they text me is a pretty inconvenient alternative.

Im going to try the new sim card route and see what happens. I did try installing different apps that allow me to text over data, some even gave me a new phone number, but nothing has worked.

It's unfortunate because I like the Nexus 4 WAY better than the iPhone and if I had a choice I would never switch back. But it seems if I want a fully functional phone I have no choice.

I wouldn't suggest jumping to the conclusion that it's related to your account/phone line. It seems to be an issue within the iMessage service where it cannot detect when a mobile number is no longer using the service.

Apparently, if you can ask your friends with iPhones who are experiencing this issue to delete you as a contact and create a new one, it should take care of it. If you're able to do this, please let me know.

Also, if you have an Apple computer with iMessage enabled, you would need to disable it on the computer (unregister all Apple devices under your Apple ID that use iMessage).

Hope this helps.

Re: iMessage problems with Fido

I have went into my Apple account, changed my contact number, and changed my password. Apparently changing your password deauthorizes any device you may have had and iMessage will not work until you sign in again...Apparently...

So far this has worked for me, and I have been able to send and receive a couple MMS to iPhones.
