Buying a Google Pixel from Fido

Hi guys,

Will be flying off tomorrow and was thinking of buying a no-plan Pixel before my flight. Just want to ask if the phone is locked by Fido thus preventing me from using another carrier's SIM cards with the phone.

Thanks

Hi @hahazor & welcome to the Community! Smiley

The Google Pixel/Pixel XL are unlocked; you'll be good to go.

Cheers!

Hi,

Is it still true? I am asking because I just got my Pixel phone from Fido and the person who sold it to me told me that I had to unlock it in order to use it on another carrier's network.

Hello @gburdeti,

Welcome to the community!

It is true, all Google Pixel and Nexus phones comes factory unlocked.

The CRTC also banned cellphone locking so all providers have to unlock cellphones free of charged, upon request, and any new phones has to come unlocked. This takes effect December 1-2017 get more info here.
