I just purhcased an unlocked BlackBerry Storm 9530 that used to be on the Bell network. I inserted my SIM card, got it on the Fido network and everything has been working fine; calls, SMS, BBM, emails, etc. I was wondering if it's normal that my phone always shows me roaming though. Does my phone think it's using the Bell network, because the phone clearly states its on the Fido network.
Also, why is the call center closed. I called Fido and they told me its closed, its 11AM on a friday FFS. Fido is going downhill...

I seem to have the same problem. Only I got a unlocked Samsung Galaxy 3 (GT-I5800) that I bought in Germany. However it seems possible to configure APN's that carry 302-370 and eventually allow internet access, but only when data roaming is enabled and then only with EDGE speed. Could anyone please tell me, where I can set the MCC and MCN values, or whatever so that I will get 3G and no roaming?

Is this the same if I have unlocked Rogers and used a FIDO sim card? Called FIDO and told me they can not help me beacause it is a non-FIDO phone. What kind of service is that?

Yes any unlocked BB will do it no matter where its from. There is no need to call in for help, what help do you need anyway?, there really is no impact to you except the turn off data while roaming option will not allow you to use data in your home network.

No he's got a point, there is an impact. If you leave the fido network (like if you're on City Fido) it wont' change to a roaming status message at the top of your phone....therefore incurring actual roaming charges without you knowing about it.
So I am also having this issue with a Bold 9700 I unlocked from Rogers. My phone was showing roaming ever since I plugged in the FIDO SIM. I'm a pretty geeky guy and I KNOW there has to be a way to fix this....but what is it? Some providers let you download their version of the BB OS for your phone...does FIDO provide that or do any of you phone specialists know how to fix this issue?
Not possible is not the right answer. You or I may not know how to do this, but someone out there does. Just like how RIM will tell you it's "impossible" to remove a BES security policy from a BB many of us know that's not true at all.
Any useful advice would be appreciated.

I have city fido with an unlocked 9700 and i do not have any problems with my bill.
Previously i was using the fido 8520 and when i was outside the city fido zone
it did not say im roaming since i still use fido's towers and its not considered roaming, just out of zone.
I think its jsut an anothing sign at the top

Same thing I am experiencing but my network keep switching between hotspot and social browser and Fido said they cannot help me because it's a non-Fido phone yet they enjoy taking the money.. sigh....
