Hello all,
I'm having trouble with my new Samsung Galaxy Q. I cannot receive picture messages on it. It just gives me the little download box, when I click it it says "downloading" and then it does nothing. If I go to a different screen and then come back it's back to the little button again.
I turned my phone on and off, and now instead of just saying "downloading" i get a message that says it couldn't download, try again later.
I just got the phone, so I don't think it's that I ran out of room. I already called Fido customer service, but since i only have the one phone, they were unable to do much except reset my account (whatever that means) and tell me to turn it on and off again.
anyone else have this problem?

Hi there skeeks,
Do you have a data option on your account? The reason I ask is, without a data option internet is restricted by default, and internet is required in order to use MMS.

I have the same problem. I press the "Download" button and it will change to "Downloading" but then go right back to "Download" after a few seconds and the pictures aren't anywhere to be found. I thought it was just an iPhone/Android compatibility thing but it happened with another friend's Dell device too. I have data and I have WiFi but it still doesn't work.

is the samsung galaxy Q a fido handset ?
did you try resetting the device settings ? ( no same as restore device which will bring handset back to virgin state )
are you able to browse the internet ? ( MMS has no relation to WiFi because it is sent through the network )
when did the problem start ?
did you install any apps or changed the settings ( even unknowingly ) ?
more info ??? these will be the type of questions that tech support will be asking
best suggestion is to call tech support since they have the tool to further investigate your profile on network....

LOL. I just phoned, sat on the phone for 5 minutes on hold, and when the guy came on the phone and I told him my problem, he told me to turn off my phone and then turn it on again. I said, "What if that doesn't help"? He said, "Then the picture is too big. You'll have to ask them to resize and resend it." I told him that wasn't at all helpful and asked him if there was any other way to get the picture. He repeated himself and that's when I thanked him and hung up.
Honestly, we can put a man into outerspace but I can't open a picture from a text message without having the sender go through the trouble of resizing and resending? I used to be able to get pictures from fido.ca/mypictures but that doesn't appear to be an option anymore.
Ridiculous.

Network criteria : MMS ( picture + txt ) packet size can be no more than 300 KB and 3MB for video
Handset Criteria : certain handsets only support certain picture file formats ( jpeg, bmp, jiff, ect..... ). that means if your friend sends a picture in a file format that your handset can not suport, then you will get a blank screen in most cases.
And yes, from a tech view, the agent was correct, however, I would disagree on his tone in how the explanation was given to you...very unacceptable...
The MMS architechure for all canadian wireless companies is really fragmented...there is no standardization in order to make the feature user friendly....with the evolution of smartphones and access to social media....MMS will be a technology that will eventually fade away like KODAK.
my 2 cents ![]()

Thanks for all your input! The pictures themselves were less than 200 kb each so I knew it didn't have anything to do with the size. I happened to be walking by an authorized Fido retailer today so I stopped in to ask if they could help. He asked me the same questions - did I have a data plan, did I try downloading while using WiFi, etc. After a few minutes of fiddling, he was able to retrieve the pictures. How? He turned of the WiFi and they downloaded instantly.
I will never understand technology but at least I can now download pictures!! ![]()

LOL...he turned off the wifi.....hmm...maybe phones could determine which data connection to use ( network or wifi )....
what a simple yet elegant solution...kudos to the fido rep....
please close thread ![]()

I have the same problem with my LG Gossip Pro, except that turning off wi-fi does not work. Do I seriously need a data plan to get photo messages now? This is ridiculous, I could get them with my old phone without a data plan.
