Re: Switching from iPhone to Blackberry

Hello,

It is possible for you to change your plan over to a new plan. If you are changing from an Iphone plan note that it will be done the day that you call therefore it will generate proration on your next bill.
As well you are free to chose a new plan but they will have to put a blackberry data option on with a data agreement because on your old plan you had an iphone data option with agreement.
Hope that helps.

Re: Switching from iPhone to Blackberry

Also for future reference, once you get a Blackberry-enabled data plan you can simply keep the plan and use it with ALL devices. BB data plans are universal and use the same APN for regular data access, and can be used in both iPhones and Berries and anything else. This is highly recommended if you sim-swap between devices often. Cheers.

Re: Switching from iPhone to Blackberry

Hello JustinCredible,

The data plans for Iphones and blackberry's are slightly different. It is a common misunderstanding that Iphone data can be used with a Blackberry. If one were to try and do this on their account it would not work. I am hoping though that Fido will develope something that will allow us to just switch our sim cards and use different devices but at this time you have to call customer care each time you want to change your device and have the data plan changed.

Re: Switching from iPhone to Blackberry

@Spy2300, Did you not read Justin's post fully before you posted your reply?

What JustinCredible said is the iphone plan is not the way to go, you would need the BlackBerry enabled data plan, it will work in your blackberry devices, and your non-blackberry devices.

The Blackberry plan will enable APN for surfing and for Blackberry functionality to work, the regular internet plan only includes the surfing APN only.

Re: Switching from iPhone to Blackberry

As Paolo said, I do not think you read my post correctly. Fido already has "universal" data plans that will work on all devices: the Blackberry data plans.

You can use Blackberry data plans on all devices. Once you have a BB data plan there is no need to ever phone customer service and switch plans when you switch devices. Ever.

This is true on many networks, not just Fido.

Regards.

Re: Switching from iPhone to Blackberry

To clarify, that would be sort of a "hack" as if there's any issues that could arise, we would not support a BB data plan on a non-BB device. There are customers who do use BB data plans with other phones, however. Basically, at your own risk.

Re: Switching from iPhone to Blackberry

TechAgent611, how is this a Hack? are you sure you know what you are talking about? Almost all the senior people at Fido have Blackberry Data plans but guess what phone they're using? iPhones. Yup.

Also, the only difference is this:
Data plan gives you access to wap.fido.ca & internet.fido.ca.
Blackberry Data plan gives you access to both wap (1) and internet(2) APN's plus it also includes the Blackberry.Net APN (apn3)

As for We do not support BB Data plan on a non BB Device? Do you remember when fido sold the Nokia E62? thats not a blackberry device ,but its "compatible" and they did have an in-market BB plan for it too.

Re: Switching from iPhone to Blackberry

It's not a "hack" at all...lol. Paolo is absolutely correct.

Blackberry data plans give access to the exact same internet access points as other data plans. The ONLY difference is Blackberry versions give you one extra APN for free, the one for BIS services. You do realize that most BB applications use the regular internet.fido.ca access point, right? That is why BB plans use the same APN.

There is no difference whatsoever, and FIDO even proactively includes the iPhone tethering SOC on Blackberry plans because they know many people sim-swap between devices! Yes that's right, all BB data plans are officially supported on iPhones as well.

This bonus iPhone-compatible tethering SOC was added to ALL existing BB plans about a month before the iPhone 4 launch, and FIDO did this on purpose to avoid having a bunch of people calling in to switch plans or complain about not being able to tether iPhones on their BB plans. Rogers did the same.

Re: Switching from iPhone to Blackberry

Justin, was the Bonus tethering SOC added to ALL BB Plans including the ones under 1GB (ie: 500 MBB) that are not advertised as having Tethering enabled as well?

Hope this helps,
