FIDO_Community_Banner-900x300-B.jpg

Hey Community!

The Android Messages app is getting an upgrade today!  This upgrade will allow for Rich Communication Services, which means an even more awesome texting experience.  Most Android models released after today will have the new Android Messages build in, however it will be available for download from the Play Store to all Android devices running 4.1 and 4.4 or higher. Note that the update is rolled out to devices in batches. You'll receive a notification to update it when it's available.

So, what’s changing exactly? Android Messages now has advanced features such as Typing Indicators, Deliver Receipts, Read Receipts, Group Messaging, and Photo/file/Location Sharing capabilities. Pretty cool eh?

Note: The advanced features only work from Messages to Messages, for now at least.

Check it out today! It’s pretty awesome.

Cheers!

Thanks!

I'd suggest deleting it and downloading it again first step @siamak__ , unless you already tried that!

On a Google pixel, Fido sim card, latest version of Android (7.1), messenger and latest everything pretty much... Not active, no banner. Uninstalled messenger, reinstalled... Nothing. Reboot phone, still nothing.

Hey @BenNYbOy84_Mtl

The new update is sent in batches on Android devices. You will definitely receive a notification as soon as it's ready for your phone.

Hi @FidoKenny. Thanks for the answer. Might be worth mentioning in the original post that this is a staged roll out and not available to all users up front. Cheers!

Hey Copps,

Can you give us a little more details on the phone you're using?

Is your device running 4.1 and 4.4 or higher?

Hey Copps,

I spoke to many friends who are on fido, and none of them have got the notification as of yet. Rest assured, Its coming, we don't know when though but I'm in the same boat as you, been waiting almost a month.  As soon as I know something, I will inform everybody on here.

I'm on a Pixel with latest updates and still no banner or anything. What's taking so long Fido?

Does Fido at least have a general time frame for the rollout? Are we talking a few more weeks, 6 months, a year?

@FidoFaiza my Nexus 6P and my Galaxy S6 both got the messenger update yesterday and the update was for these features but it does not work.

@tmEvol, I can't give a specific time frame but I can tell you that all eligible Android devices (running 4.1 and 4.4 or higher) will soon get the update (if they haven't gotten already).

@KAPABLE-K - Congrats on getting the update. Have you enabled it? I think you have to go to Settings/Advanced/Enhanced Features to enable.

Hi @KAPABLE-K, daring to ask the obvious but did you try turning your phones off and on?
