Hey Community!

Your eyes are not deceiving you; you are reading Fido’s very first Community Blog post! We’ve introduced this Blog to get in touch with you in real time and to keep everyone in the loop with everything that’s going on with the Community. We’ll be posting news blogs, upcoming contests, tips and tricks, and much more. Be the first to know!

Dig the new look? We’ve made some changes to the Community and quite frankly, we think they’re pretty awesome! Here are a few of them:

  • New modern layout
  • Featured Threads section
  • Addition of the Apps board, so we can talk about various applications such as My Account and Spotify
  • Our live Twitter feed
  • Enhanced, front and center search bar

Also, you can now upload your own photo to use as your avatar or choose one from our new list!

These changes are the first of many to come. We would love to know what you think! Drop us a word in the comment section!

We’ll always remember the old Fido Community! Smiley

Like so often, eye-candy comes at the price of functionality.

That huge banner at the top with all the headers and wasted whitespace takes 2/3rd of my 22" monitor's height, meaning it's garanteed that I'll have to scroll to read any message.

Add that the forum categories are no longer bolded when there's new messages, so I pretty much have to go through each category to just see if there are new messages.

I'm not against change, but when usuability is lost for mere decoration, I don't call that a good change.

In that case, I also suggest the use of AJAX rather than a full page refresh when navigating through the categories or viewing messages.

Your web programmers will know what AJAX is. Or rather, they should know what AJAX is! If they don't, send them to get some web programming training! Smiley
