All modern mobile operating systems have some flavor of a device locator service. Apple has "find my phone", Android has " Android device manager", BlackBerry has "BlackBerry protect".
Regardless of the service, they all offer you pretty much the same options. By going to the appropriate website/app for each service on a desktop or tablet you will be able to do one or more of the following:
1) locate your device and have its approximate location displayed on map
2) lock the device/ display a message on its screen
3) make the device ring loudly
4) remotely erase all the content on the device.
This feature can also be useful in an emergency(e.g. attempt to locate a family member that has gone missing)
